Romain inspired by Levy’s win in Germany

France’s Romain Langasque says that compatriot Alexander Levy’s victory at the Porsche European Open has given him the inspiration he needs ahead of the Kazakhstan Open at Zhailjau Golf Resort.

Langasque, who is currently third in the Road to Oman Rankings, has finished runner-up three times on Europe’s top developmental tour this season and in the top five on three other occasions.

Knowing that he is close to a first professional win, Langasque has arrived in Almaty in confidence, with the knowledge that victory in Kazakhstan could secure his place in the top 15 in the Rankings, guaranteeing his place on the European Tour in 2017.

“We play to win every week, but we all especially want to win this one,” said Langasque. “I want more wins. This year, I have finished twice three times. Although I can look back and think I played well, I also think that I didn’t take my chances.

“My only objective before the end of the season is to win a tournament.

“Alexander Levy, one of my best friends, won last week on the European Tour and that has given me a lot of inspiration.”

Langasque’s last performance on the European Challenge Tour was a solo fourth finish at the Rolex Trophy, and he has since made two appearances on the European Tour, finishing tied 34th in the KLM Open and an impressive tied seventh at the Omega European Masters.

“The last two tournaments I played in were on the European Tour, and then I took some time off,” he said. “I spent time back home in France and that was a chance for me to prepare for this tournament.

“It’s one of the biggest of the year and can really help us move up the Rankings and make it to the European Tour.

“The course is good and really well prepared. I was surprised about the condition of the course. Long players will have an advantage here because the course has some options.

“I feel really good about this course and I am confident for this week. There are a lot of birdie chances, but the rough is heavy too

“It’s a good test and it may be one of the best we play on the Challenge Tour.

“For every player here, it’s a really important week.”
