As the Scottish event celebrates its tenth anniversary we take a look at the best statistics from the past decade in Aviemore.
Ten– This year will mark the tenth time that Macdonald Spey Valley Golf Club has hosted the SSE Scottish Hydro Challenge hosted by Macdonald Hotels and Resorts.
Two– Major Champions have played in the Highlands. Paul Lawrie, the 1999 Open Champion, teed it up in the inaugural staging of the competition in 2009 while Brooks Koepka, who successfully defended his U.S. Open title last week, won in Aviemore in 2013.
Five– The number of players who have competed in the SSE Scottish Hydro Challenge and are now in the world’s top 25: Rafael Cabrera Bello in 25th, Tyrrell Hatton in 23rd, Alex Noren in 17th, Tommy Fleetwood in tenth and Koepka in fourth.
21– The lowest winning total in the tournament’s history. In 2016 James Heath carded four rounds in the 60s to finish the week at 21 under par and triumph by three shots.
Two– Home winners of the event. Scots Jamie McLeary and George Murray prevailed in the first two stagings of the tournament, which has since seen five Englishmen, one Frenchman and one American prevail.
Four– The largest winning margin in the tournament’s history. Home favourite Murray was four shots better than his nearest challenger in 2010 while last year England’s Richard McEvoy was four shots clear of the rest of the field when he claimed his second European Challenge Tour title.
62– The course record at Macdonald Spey Valley Golf Club. Three players have achieved this score: England’s Chris Lloyd in 2012, Koepka in 2013 and Heath in 2016.
16– The number of eagles scored at the 542-yard par-five 13thlast year, which was statistically the easiest hole on the course.
132– The number of bogeys carded at the testing 456-yard par-four 11thlast year, which was statistically the hardest hole on the course.
635– The length in yards of the longest hole at Macdonald Spey Valley Golf Club, which is the beastly par-five fifth.
