Super-Daan targeting history on Kazakhstan debut

Daan Huizing is eyeing a historic third consecutive European Challenge Tour victory when the gifted young Dutchman makes his Kazakhstan Open debut at Nurtau Golf Club this week.

The 22 year old has been on a superlative run of form of late, claiming his second victory in as many appearances at the Kharkov Superior Cup in Ukraine last week having claimed his maiden win two weeks prior to that at the Northern Ireland Open Challenge Presented by Clannah and XJT.

Those back-to-back titles, either side of the Open Blue Green Côtes d'Armor Bretagne in which he did not play, were the culmination of a superb run of form in which the 22 year claimed four top fives in six events without once finishing outside the top 20.

While it would not break the record for quickest elevation from the Challenge Tour to The European Tour were he to win here – Kristoffer Broberg did it in six events last season – it would be the first for the tour for a player to win in three consecutive appearances.

It has been a fantastic start to life on the tour for the Soest native, who as an amateur last year won the St Andrews Links Trophy and Lytham Trophy by 11 shots and 14 shots respectively, and he does not intend to take his foot off the pedal one bit, especially going into one of the biggest and most lucrative tournaments of the season in Kazakhstan.

“I've heard really good stories about Kazakhstan and I have heard the course is good,” said the former World Amateur Number Three. “I'm looking forward to it and we’ll see how I do.

“I really try not to think about the prize funds of any events. At the end of the day it’s just another tournament for me. You can’t be calculating out on the course and that’s what I did well in Ukraine last week, just played and relaxed and enjoyed my golf.

“Suddenly then you see that you climb up the leaderboard every day. I can’t think about Kazakhstan as a ‘Major’ and put pressure on myself to play well. If you try too hard to go and get it, often it goes further away from you so I will just do my thing and see what happens.

“It’s going very well now but it’s a very long road upwards so I try not to stay still and look around to see how it’s going. I just want to keep moving forward.”

With just four tournaments left on the 2013 Challenge Tour schedule and a €400,000, the Kazakhstan Open is a huge week for everybody involved.

Huizing is joined by 13 other winners from the 2013 Challenge Tour Schedule so far including Frenchman François Calmels and Andrea Pavan of Italy, both also chasing a third victory of the year which would secure their automatic path to The European Tour.
