2016 marked the inaugural edition of the Swedish Challenge hosted by Robert Karlsson as a Challenge Tour event, though the tournament at Katrineholm Golf Club has been a Nordic League event since 2011 – also the year of the Challenge Tour’s last visit to the country until last year.
Swedish golf has a long and proud history on the Challenge Tour, most notably Henrik Stenson’s rise since winning the Rankings in 2000, with his long-overdue first Major victory at last summer's Open Championship a memorable highlight of the year.
Joel Stalter's dramatic play-off victory 12 months ago at Katrineholm set him up to graduate from the Road to Oman, the Frenchman just holding onto the 16th and final spot in the Rankings on the final day of the season to seal a European Tour card.
