On the eve of the Euram Bank Open, we have picked out three men to keep an eye on this week as the action gets under way at GC Adamstal.
Darius van Driel
Darius van Driel triumphed in the maiden edition of the Euram Bank Open in 2018, coming out on top of an epic final day battle with Sean Crocker, Joachim B. Hansen and David Law in Lower Austria. The Dutchman earned victory following a superb up and down on the 72nd hole of the tournament after missing the green from the tee and then getting down for par, subsequently holding off the chasing pack. As he prepares to defend his maiden European Challenge Tour title, it could be perfect timing for van Driel to become a winner once more. He has come close in recent weeks, playing in the final group of both the D+D REAL Czech Challenge and Le Vaudreuil Golf Challenge before closing rounds of 76 have derailed his title bid on both occasions. This could well be the week where he gets the job done.
Grégory Havret
Being a three-time European Tour winner and U.S. Open runner-up means Grégory Havret knows how to get it done on the big stage, and his current form is trending in the right direction. The Frenchman is back on the Challenge Tour this year after losing his European Tour playing privileges in 2018 and he has wasted no time in his search for an immediate return. He already has three top fives to his name in 2019 – including a solo third place in France last week – and currently sits eighth in the Challenge Tour Rankings.
Steven Tiley
It started out as just another week for Steven Tiley at Le Vaudreuil Golf Challenge last week, but it turned out to be one he will never forget after securing his first Challenge Tour title. The Englishman went wire-to-wire in the same fashion as good friend and 2018 champion Richard McEvoy as he darted up the Rankings and into the top 15. His highest finish of the season prior to his maiden victory was tied 47th at the season-opening Turkish Airlines Challenge and had missed three successive cuts prior to last week. However, ten years after making his Challenge Tour debut he has now shown, to himself as well as everyone else, that he has what it takes to win on the Challenge Tour. Beware a man with confidence.
