Jacopo Vecchi Fossa is having his most successful season to date on the HotelPlanner Tour and will be hoping to build on last week’s top ten to boost his hopes of reaching the Rolex Grand Final supported by The R&A.
The Italian, who made his debut on the Road to Mallorca back in 2013, has already earned more money on the course than in any previous season, as well as registering his first top-three finish on the tour at the Le Vaudreuil Golf Challenge earlier this month.
Vecchi Fossa is hoping to keep that momentum going at this week’s Infortar Estonian Challenge, following on from finishing second on the Alps Tour Order of Merit last year.
“My season is going quite good,” he said. “There are a lot of tournaments but I’m trying to play as much as I can because I would like to keep the momentum going. It’s going well so far so I’m pretty happy.
“I’m happy to have played the Alps Tour last year at such a good level. I played quite well all the season and was in contention a few times.”
Vecchi Fossa won twice on the Alps Tour, an Official Satellite of the HotelPlanner Tour, last year to earn his way back to the Road to Mallorca.
Now he sits 46th in the Road to Mallorca Rankings, and with some of his best finishes coming in the last month, there is a feeling that this season holds a lot of potential.
Last week was particularly special for the 32-year-old, as it was his first event as a married man. He marked the occasion with his second top ten in three events.
“Last week was a great week because on the Sunday before I got married, then I had my wife on the bag, so it was emotional playing with her,” he added.
“It started not so good because I started with three bogeys in a row, but it finished very good with a bogey free six under, so I was very happy.”
The Italian now has his eyes set on the Rolex Grand Final, and is looking to boast his chances of promotion as the HotelPlanner Tour visits Estonia for the first time.
"I’ll try to get to the Grand Final at the end of the year," the Italian said. "The game I’m playing is quite good, so I’ll try. My goal is that one for now.
"I’m trying to play as well as I can. Maybe there’s going to be another week like that one [in Le Vaudreuil]. I hope to have a win this year and let’s see how it goes.”
Round one gets under way on Thursday at 07:30am local time, with Vecchi Fossa teeing off at 01:15pm, alongside Sweden’s Robin Petersson and Malaysia’s Gavin Green.
