Vierumäki Finnish Challenge supported by Finnish Golf Union: Three to watch

As the Finnish Challenge returns to Vierumäki for its tenth edition, it signals the start of the final nine on the 2026 Road to Mallorca, and a chance to get the win that could all but secure a 2027 season DP World Tour card. Here are three players with a good chance to do just that this week…

Form Horse: Louis Albertse

Twice Louis Albertse has been in the final group this season, and twice the South African has fallen agonisingly short. He was one shot short of the winning mark at the Irish Challenge last week, as compatriot Justin Harding secured his maiden title on the HotelPlanner Tour. But it was valuable points for Albertse on the Road to Mallorca, with two second places and another top ten helping him up to 11th in the season-long Rankings. The 29-year-old will be hoping his breakthrough win can come this week in Finland.

Local Boy: Tapio Pulkkanen

Leading the line for Finland on the Road to Mallorca Rankings following his win at the Danish Golf Challenge earlier this year, Tapio Pulkkanen knows another win at this stage would most likely give him enough points to secure a spot once again on Golf’s Global Tour. Aside from his victory, the Finn also finished fourth at the CIRCA Cape Town Open, his only other top ten this season, with two additional top 20 finishes. Pulkkanen has played the event in Vierumäki three times since it’s induction in 2016, with his best finish only a share of 30th in its debut year. Expect this to be bettered this year, however, as the 36-year-old looks to earn a card via the HotelPlanner Tour for the third time.

Outsider: Alfie Plant

It was a runner up in Finland last season for Alfie Plant, rounds of 69-67-69-68 seeing him reach 15 under par and come up two short of eventual winner David Law. But it will give the Englishman confidence as the Road to Mallorca returns to Vierumaki’s Cooke Course for the tenth time. Sitting 44th in the Rankings, the 34-year-old will be looking to add to a third place finish at the Le Vaudreuil Golf Challenge, and an eighth place finish in Scotland two weeks ago. A good week in Finland could help him cement a spot at the Rolex Grand Final, as well as push for that all important top 15.
