It was John Catlin who eventually claimed the crown, coming through a dramatic seven-hole play-off, the joint longest in the history of the Tour. His long-range birdie putt saw off Kristian Krogh Johannessen, with the emotion visible from the American winner as he added yet another national open to his already impressive victory list.

Tom Lewis was the featured player for the week, the two-time DP World Tour winner detailing the trials and tribulations of his career recently on his way to a 12th place finish.

This was the first playing of England’s national open since 2002, with the event expected to return to the DP World Tour in the 2028 season. It certainly lived up to expectations, with the desire for its return seemingly well founded.
