A record breaking week at The Masters

Dustin Johnson enjoyed a record-breaking week as he claimed a second Major title at the 84th Masters Tournament

Johnson matched the 54 hole scoring record at 16 under par to take a four shot lead into the final round, before going on to claim the lowest 72 hole score in Masters Tournament history on 20 under with a final round 68.

He overtook the previous record of 18 under, which was set by Tiger Woods in 1997 and matched by Jordan Spieth in 2015. Until this year, Spieth had been the only player to reach 19 under.

In addition to scoring records, DJ recorded the fewest bogeys ever by a winner for the week (4), and completed his 11th consecutive under par round at Augusta National.

"The Masters to me is the biggest tournament, it’s the one I wanted to win the most," he said afterwards, having become the first World Number One to win the Masters since Woods in 2002.

“I’m just very proud of the way I handled myself and the way I finished off the golf tournament.

“Honestly it still feels like a dream. As a kid, dreaming about winning the Masters, having Tiger put the Green Jacket on you, it still seems like it’s a dream but I’m here and what a great feeling it is and I couldn’t be more excited."

But Johnson wasn't the only player to break a record this week.

Cameron Smith became the only player in history to card four rounds in the 60s at Augusta National. He finished in second place with Sunjgae Im, and their 15-under total was the lowest shot by a player who didn’t go on to win the Masters.

Im, who finished tied for 22nd in the U.S. Open earlier this year, also recorded the lowest score ever in a Masters debut.

Bernhard Langer, the 1985 and 1993 Masters champion, set a new record of his own as he became the oldest player to make a cut at The Masters - at the age of 63.

With rounds of 68, 73, 73 and 71, Langer went on to finish tied for 29th place on three under par.
