Cantero Gutierrez capitalises on conditions to lead in Sweden

Ivan Cantero Gutierrez took advantage of calm morning conditions as he moved into a one-stroke lead at the halfway stage of the Dormy Open.

The Spaniard took the clubhouse lead at seven under after a four under par second round of 63 at Askersunds Golfklubb before afternoon rain halted the progress of the overnight leaders.

He sits one stroke ahead of Adam Blomme, who is searching for a maiden European Challenge Tour victory on home soil in Sweden, and Austrian Niklas Regner.

“I feel really good,” said Cantero Gutierrez. “The first nine the conditions are really good, the greens are perfect and a little better than yesterday. Very good score for today.”

Currently ranked 21st on the Road to Mallorca Rankings, the 27-year-old believes that good course management will aid his quest for a maiden Challenge Tour title and a place in the all-important Top 20 on the season-long standings, with those players earning DP World Tour cards for 2024.

“Driver is my best club and my irons this week are really good,” he added. “I hope that tomorrow I have the same. It’s very important to stay in the fairway and the course is not very short, you need to hit a few drivers and very good irons.”

“I have the same plan as the other tournaments, playing the same, trying to do my best and finish in the top 20.”

In second place on five under par are Blomme and Regner, one stroke ahead of eight golfers on four under, including Andrea Pavan, who tasted victory earlier this season at the D+D REAL Czech Challenge.

Round three will begin at 7:30am, with halfway leader Cantero Gutierrez teeing off alongside Blommé and Regner at 9:31am.
