Honkala hopeful that home comforts lead to success

Matias Honkala is hopeful that home comforts and course familiarity will see him to success at this week’s Vierumäki Finnish Challenge.

“I played this tournament a couple of times, once as an amateur and last year as a pro” he said. “The history here goes way back for me. We have had some practice camps here with the national team, there is a big facility here, so I am really familiar with the place.

“There is quite a few tricky holes, if you miss it off the tee, but I know where to miss the ball, well I hope I do! Usually, the scoring has been pretty low here, so I’ll have to be good all week basically.”

The Finnish pro currently stands 103rd in the Race to Mallorca standings and looks to have everything in place on and off the golf course to put in a solid performance at his home tournament.

“Of course, it is nice to be home and have my home crowd with me and exciting for the next couple of weeks too” he added.

“On the last day to play for the win with my home crowd with me, that would be awesome but let’s see.

“I’m going to stay at my cottage, it is close by here, it is going to be nice there. I have my good friend with me on the bag this week.

“We both like fishing, so we are going to fish a lot and play good golf.”
