The last two winners of this event climbed into contention, while Adrian rose to the summit on day three of the 2022 Horizon Irish Open.

Former champions in the hunt

American John Catlin, who won this tournament in 2020, shot the joint-lowest round of the day to jump to 12 under par and get within two of leader Adrian Meronk. He made eight birdies in his third-round 65, with his only blemish a bogey on the short sixth. Defending champion Lucas Herbert is one shot further back on 11 under and well-placed to pounce in the final round.

Zanotti's par-fect patience pays off

Fabrizio Zanotti began the day on ten under par and remained there for some time on Saturday, as he opened his third round with 14 straight pars. He broke the run with a birdie from around 14 feet at the 15th before chipping in for an eagle on the 17th to climb to 13 under.

Campillo still in the mix after some brilliant battling 

Jorge Campillo didn't have things all his own way in the early part of his third round but the Spaniard hung in there thanks to some superb lengthy putts. A 15-footer for par at the second was followed by a 25-foot birdie putt on the next. Having dropped his first shot of the day at the fifth, he kept a second bogey off the card with another good par save on the ninth. He made his second birdie at the tenth to keep pace with the early clubhouse leaders before saving par from range at the 14th. And after a good up-and-down from a bunker on the 16th, he birdied the long 17th to get to 13 under.

Tight at the top

Meronk leads the way ahead of the fourth round but he has a seriously-talented chasing pack just beneath him on a stacked leaderboard. If the Pole is going to claim his maiden DP World Tour crown on Sunday, he is going to have to fight off the challenge of Jack Senior, Zanotti and Campillo, who are just one shot behind him.
