Shane Lowry taking confidence from wonderful weekend

Shane Lowry insists he can take a great deal of confidence from his performances over the weekend at Mount Juliet Estate after following up Saturday's 68 with a closing 67 to finish the 2022 Horizon Irish Open as the leading Irishman.

The Major Champion produced one of the most memorable moments of the week on Friday when he birdied the last four holes to make the cut in front of his adoring home fans.

Lowry enjoyed a much more comfortable weekend, making 11 birdies and just two bogeys in his last 36 holes to finish in a tie for ninth on 12 under par.

The 35-year-old, who won this event as an amateur in 2009, will have a spring in his step as he heads to Adare Manor Hotel & Golf Resort for the JP McManus Pro-Am, which kicks off on Monday.

He said: "I'm happy with my weekend's work and I can take a lot of confidence from this going forward, and looking forward to Adare for a couple of days and obviously getting ready for The Open.

"It was an amazing week here in Kilkenny and I really enjoyed my time here.

"The crowds were incredible. I loved every part of it. Stressful to start the week. Stressful few days early on. But I did really enjoy my weekend."
