Nerveless Hovland keeps on rolling

Viktor Hovland continued his remarkable start to life as a professional golfer with a 69 on day one of the BMW PGA Championship.

The Norwegian entered the paid ranks after finishing as low amateur at the Masters Tournament and U.S. Open Championship and has made every cut in his first eight professional starts worldwide.

He could not have picked a bigger stage on which to make his professional bow on the European Tour, entering the fourth Rolex Series event of the 2019 Race to Dubai on a remarkable run of 23 sub-70 scores in his last 25 starts.

And playing alongside Ryder Cup captain Padraig Harrington, he made it 24 from 26 at Wentworth Golf Club with seven birdies and three bogeys - including a birdie-birdie finish - to get to three under.

"It's been a blast so far," he said. "Obviously a lot of people out here and it's cool to be playing in front of them. Thankfully I made some birdies today and just keep that up.

"It was a little up and down today. In the end, I'm happy with a 69 after some bad shots here and there.

"Especially with that drive on the last that somehow managed to stay out of the trees and ended up converting for birdie. That was nice."
