David Watts hits the front in G4D Tour @ Singapore Classic

David Watts will take a one-shot lead into the final round of the G4D Tour @ Singapore Classic as he targets a maiden G4D Tour title at Laguna National Golf Resort Club.

The South African, who made three appearances in the inaugural season last year, mixed five birdies with a bogey and a double bogey in a two under par 70 on Monday.

World Number One Kipp Popert sits in second place on one under par as he targets his sixth G4D Tour title and second of the expanded eight-event 2023 campaign, following his win at the Australian All Abilities Championship @ the ISPS HANDA Australian Open in December.

Aidan Grenham is four shots adrift of first-round leader Watts after the Irish debutant opened with a 74, hitting the pin with his tee shot at the par three fourth.

Watts missed out on qualifying for the season-ending G4D Tour @ DP World Tour Championship in Dubai but says he has a renewed hunger to push on and be successful this year.

“I am extremely motivated,” he said. “I worked a lot over the festive period.

“The goal is to make it to the Tour Championship at the end of the season, play solid and get in contention regularly and hopefully win a couple of events.

“I have been playing well coming into the event, I have worked hard and everything has been good. I am just going to try and do what I did today again tomorrow.”

Watts birdied the first and third before six straight pars saw him hit the turn in 33 and hold a one-shot advantage.

He built on that with back-to-back birdies at the 13th and 14th, but he then dropped three shots in his next two holes before a closing birdie earned him the overnight lead.

Popert registered three birdies and two bogeys in his 71, while Grenham burst out of the blocks with an eagle and two birdies in his opening four holes before he recovered from a difficult mid-round stretch to finish with back-to-back birdies.
