Bring shoots 64 to lead after round one in Switzerland

Christoffer Bring carded a bogey free opening round to sign for a seven under par 64 and lead by one shot after the first round of the Swiss Challenge.

The Dane, who is featuring on the 2026 Road to Mallorca for the fourth time, recorded two birdies in his final three holes on a low-scoring morning, before the blustery conditions picked up at Golf Sempach.

Bring, who was in just the second group of the morning off the first tee, felt that he was able to capitalise on the scoreable conditions that allowed him to set the pace.

“We didn’t really have any wind to start with,” he said. “We got a bit lucky with the draw as it looks like it is going to be windy and maybe some rain later.

“Golf has been a bit tough this year, so I’ve been trying not to think too much about it. I’m just trying to enjoy playing, obviously it’s fun to make some birdies and see where it goes.

“It was pretty easy today, I didn’t miss that many greens and had a couple of good looks at birdie, so it was really nice.

“My golf has got better recently, so I’m trying to enjoy it.”

Bring had made it to the DP World Tour by finishing eighth at the Final Stage of Qualifying School in 2022, but struggled on Golf’s Global Tour in 2023, losing his card and only managing to secure HotelPlanner Tour status for 2024.

This year, the 27-year-old has missed the cut in all three HotelPlanner Tour events he has featured in this year but is not going to let his positive start affect his preparations ahead of the second round.

“It doesn’t change my approach going into tomorrow. I’m just going to keep enjoying playing and see what happens.”

Aussie Haydn Barron, Englishman George Bloor, Slovakian Tadeas Tetak and Sweden’s Edén Tobias sit just one shot off the pace at six under par.

In a tie for sixth are American Cooper Musselman, England’s Matthew Southgate, German Jan Schneider and Dane Hamish Brown at five under par.

The second round of the Swiss Challenge gets under way on Friday morning at 7.40am local time, with Bring teeing off alongside Englishman Taylor Carter and Switzerland’s Jean-Leon Aeschlimann at 12.50pm.
