Tomás Gouveia will be looking to secure his place on the 2026 Road to Mallorca with a win at the Challenge de Catalunya at Fontanals Golf Club this week.
The Portuguese played his way into the field with a second placed finish at the Italian Challenge Open. Gouveia finished just one shot behind the eventual leader, Chris Wood, on 21 under par for the week, carding rounds of 68-67-66-66 at Golf Nazionale, where he was playing via an invitation.
The second placed finish in Viterbo saw Gouveia catapult to eighth place on the Rankings in his first HotelPlanner Tour appearance of 2026 and the 31-year-old is looking to build on his best HotelPlanner Tour finish to date.
“I had an invite to play this week, but I’m glad that I didn’t need to use that invite,” he said.
“I was very happy to get that top ten, especially in the first event in Europe. My expectations were very low going into Italy last week, so it was amazing to do it.
“I’ll just keep doing what I have been doing each day. My routines, processes, everything, that’s what I’ll focus on every day. If I do those, I know that my game will be in shape, and we will see at the end of the week.”
Gouveia finished strong at Golf Nazionale and carded six birdies on Sunday, coupled with a solitary bogey to put pressure on Wood down the stretch.
“Last week was my first time playing in the final group on the Sunday, and I was up against some amazing players in Chris (Wood) and Barclay,” he added “I tried my best to give Chris some pressure and he didn’t flinch, he played really well.
“I played really well on the back nine, and I’m proud of that.
“This place is amazing. The golf course, the nature, the mountains; everything is well set up, I think it will be a challenge.
“I was here last year, and it’s a bit different but it amazing to be playing again in one of my favourite spots of the year.”
Gouveia joins a strong field in Girona for the second European event on the schedule, which includes last week’s winner Wood and Road to Mallorca number one MJ Daffue, who has impressed on the DP World Tour in recent weeks.
