Season two of the Life on Tour Podcast presented by Hilton continues this week with one of the most loved characters in golf, Andrew “Beef” Johnston.
So far this season we’ve welcomed Ian Poulter, Niall Horan, José María Olazábal to the podcast as well as a live panel at the BMW International Open. Life on Tour aims to take the listener inside the ropes to give an insight to what life is like for some of the biggest names from in and around golf.
We joined Beef at the Double Tree by Hilton, Tower of London where he was taking some time off after a busy stretch of golf in July. His month was highlighted by a final round 62 leading to a 4th place finish at the Aberdeen Standard Investments Scottish Open, his best finish of the season. As a result, he secured a place at the 148th Open Championship at Royal Portrush.
Born and bred in North London, Beef grew up playing at North Middlesex Golf Club and is still a member to this day. After a promising junior career representing England Boys, Johnston passed up on the men’s amateur scene and turned professional. He spent a few years bouncing between the Challenge Tour and main tour before eventually breaking through at the 2016 Valderrama Masters.
There’s life early life playing on a pitch and putt, nicknames, that beef inspired lob wedge, his recent struggles with mental health, dinners with John Daly and hanging out with Michael Jordan in Florida.
The European Tour and its Official Partner Hilton are continuing their mission to give fans a unique view of professional golf.
Featuring some of the game’s great characters both past and present – from Major Champions, Ryder Cup heroes, broadcasters and more – we dive deep inside the stories you want to hear with no subject out of bounds.
