Aside from 1999, has won every year on the US PGA Tour since 1996, his most recent victory coming in March 2003 in The Honda Classic where his winning total of 264 set a new tournament low record by two strokes. Finished 17th on the 2003 US PGA Tour Money List but personal highlight of the year was the birth of his first child, daughter Reece, in September. Was in contention in the John Deere Classic at the time but withdrew to fly home and be with wife Amanda. Won the 126th Open Golf Championship at Royal Troon in 1997 to make Major Championship breakthrough but, alongside Jean Van de Velde, lost in a play to Paul Lawrie at Carnoustie in 1999. That year, however, he will be remembered for sinking a huge putt on the 17th green at The Country Club, Brookline, against José Maria Olazábal which regained The Ryder Cup for the United States. Notoriously fastidious, friend Brad Faxon claims he arranges his sock drawer in colour order and that he vacuums in a straight line! Known as 'Jasper' to his fellow professionals, won 1992 US Amateur Championship before turning professional two years later. Finished third in Anheuser-Busch Classic in 1994 to earn Tour privileges without going to the Qualifying School. Mentors on Tour are fellow Texans Ben Crenshaw, who was his Ryder Cup Captain in 1999, and Tom Kite. A claim to fame is that he completed the White Rock Marathon in his native Dallas in 2001 in a highly respectable time of three hours, 55 minutes..
