Stuart Davis birdied his first two holes to oust Thomas Levet from the top of the leaderboard in the early stages of the final round of the Open de España.
The Englishman stormed out of the blocks to record threes at the opening pair of par fours, while France’s Levet dropped a shot at the second to fall to 13 under par and second place.
Paraguay’s Fabrizio Zanotti matched Davis’ early efforts to join defending champion Peter Lawrie in a tie for third on 11 under – three off the pace.
Davis is a 35 year old European Tour rookie who graduated from last year’s Challenge Tour.
He is set to record easily his best finish on The Race to Dubai which came when he finished in a tie for 21st at the Estoril Open de Portugal.
