England's Simon Dyson made his move as the Omega European Masters resumed in Switzerland.
One behind Australian Brett Rumford after an opening 63 containing two eagles, Dyson initially bogeyed the 11th and 13th - both par threes - and as a result found himself in a six way tie for second place.
Dyson headed back in the direction he wanted with birdies at the 14th and 15th, the two par fives on the back nine, and when Rumford three-putted the 11th they were locked together at eight under.
As Rumford dropped three further shots, Dyson gained strokes on the 17th and first to take the outright lead at ten under.
Dyson’s compatriot Danny Willett birdied his first two holes to move into second on eight under, one ahead of South Africa’s Thomas Aiken and Thailand’s Chapchai Nirat, both of whom were four under for the day through ten holes.
