Through a combination of record crowds enjoying a sun drenched BMW PGA Championship and some inspirational putting seen on and off the course, more than £26,000 has been donated through Genworth Financial’s Putts4Charity initiative.
For every one putt sunk on the West Course, the Genworth Foundation has donated £2 to SOS Children’s Villages, the main beneficiary of this year’s initiative, and for every one putt made by the public on specially constructed greens in the tented village, £1 has been donated. A number of professionals, including Henrik Stenson, representing The Tour Players’ Foundation also visited the public greens to make their own, individual ‘big money’ one putts.
“Both the public and the players have been on great ‘putting’ form,” said Martin Ring, a director of the Genworth Foundation, the charitable giving arm of Genworth Financial. “These fantastic putting statistics have pushed us that bit closer to the half million Euro figure – a figure we are closing in on quickly and which represents monies donated to good causes through Putts4Charity since the initiative first began in 2007.”
