Weather
Weather in advance - in the last few weeks there has been a lot of rain
Forecast for tournament - some showers / light rain, otherwise mild with fresh winds and some warmth and sunshine over the weekend
Course
Opened - 1972 (re-opened in 2006 after remodelling)
Course designer - Dr Billy O'Sulliavan and Fred Hawtree with redesign by Tom Mackenzie
Special features - the course has a stunning setting built alongside Lough Leane with this coming into play most prominently on the 1st, 3rd, 4th and 10th which is a beautiful par 3 and the feature hole which plays straight out towards the water
General playability - with light winds the course will be open to some low scoring but if the wind blows the challenge changes significantly
Undulating / flat - fairly flat
Tree lined / exposed - a lot of trees on the course but some of the holes adjacent to the water are quite exposed
Many / few water hazards - water comes into play on 11 out of the 18 holes
Changes to the course -the last time the Irish Open was played here was in 1992, since then the course has been remodelled with USGA specification greens and a fair few number of tees
Other features
The course is home to several varieties of deer (red and seeker) and Lough Leane is home to salmon and trout which a good number of the players will enjoy fly fishing for during the week
