Four birdies in his first five holes swept England's Graeme Storm into the early second round lead at the Omega European Masters in Switzerland.

Resuming in joint second place, one behind 17 year old Italian Matteo Manassero, Storm moved from six under par to ten under.

But the player he least wanted to see in his rear-view mirror was the one who was there - last week's winner Edoardo Molinari birdied three of the first four holes over on the back nine to climb to eight under.

Molinari's victory in the Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles had been followed an hour later by a wild card call into Europe's Ryder Cup Team.

The new World Number 15 is playing in his last event before The Celtic Manor Resort clash on October 1-3 and after 23 holes he had yet to drop a shot.

Compatriot Manassero was among the later starters and was joined on seven under by Finn Mikko Ilonen when he resumed with a birdie four.

Storm came unstuck with bogeys on the eighth and ninth and Molinari seized the opportunity to move into the outright lead.

His fourth birdie in six holes came on the long 15th, so at nine under he was one in front of Storm and Ilonen, who had his second birdie at the driveable par four seventh.

Spain's Gonzalo Fernandez-Castaño retired after seven holes of his second round. Following bogey sixes on the 14th and 15th he was down on six over par - the same mark as 55 year old Greg Norman, who was returning to action 12 months after shoulder surgery.
