So as the dust settles, Robert Rock shoots final round of 70 for a 13 under par total of 275 with Rory McIlroy shooting a 69 to finish runner-up for the second successive year. Thomas Bjorn and Graeme McDowell both came in with a 68 to tie third with Tiger Woods, who shot a 72, on 11 under par.

That's it! Robert Rock wins the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf CHampionship by a single stroke from Rory McIlroy with Tiger Woods, Graeme McDowell and Thomas Bjorn sharing third. What a final day, and what a wonderful week on The European Tour. Congratulations Rocky!

A magnificent putt from Rock right next to the hole. He has the simplest of tap ins to win the greatest title of his career, beating Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy in the process.

What drama - Rock goes right into the hazard but on the beach area. Hard to tell how it lies. Worrying moments.

Pars all round for the final group on the 17th. And off they go to the 18th tee. Robert Rock is two shots clear of McIlroy and tree clear of McIlroy with just the 18th hole to negotiate!

Nice approach from McIlroy into the 18th and he rolls it straight in from eight feet for a birdie for a 69 to finish at 12 under par. Leader in the clubhouse. 22 birdies this week and looks like he might finish runner-up for the second successive year.

Tiger races his first putt from the fringe at the front ten feet past and bravely holes it for a par four. He stays at 11 under par with two to play and Rock has a birdie putt to go three clear from closer than Woods...and in it drops. The Englishman is 14 under par and three shots clear.

What a shot there from Robert Rock - wonderful five iron to within ten feet at teh 16th and he is looking good.

Brilliant birdie, birdie finish for GMac. Hole-in-one, chip in, ricochet, long putts - his back nine had it all. Finishes at 11 under par with a closing 68 and he's the leader in the clubhouse. Matteo Manassero shot a 69 to finish one behind at ten under and another impressive week from the young Italian.

That has to be the shot of the day. Graeme McDowell's third into the 18th from the fairway bunker soars over the green, hiting the boarding in front of the stand and rebonding back to three feet. Not sure he meant that!

How about that? Great character and heart of a champion from the Englishman and he looks very calm out here. Plenty of "come on Rockys" too.

Paul Lawrie misses from ten feet on the 16th and drops back to ten under par.

Great bounce back as Rock makes a birdie three on the hardest hole of the course and he has that two shot cushion back again

Seven players within two shots at the top of the leaderboard and anything can happen over this closing stretch.

Great up and down from Woods to save par at 13 met by a rapturous reception, back to within now as Rock bogeys after a poor chip. Sense a changing of momentum out here and Woods looks focused.

The banks and hospitality stands around the 13th green are packed with fans reveling in a glorious afternoon and waiting for a moment of magic from potential victors Rock and Woods.

McIroy looked to be stroggling but holes a great putt for par and he is still very much in the running

At last a birdie putt drops for McIlroy and he moves to 11 under par and into a three-way tie for second alongside Lawrie and Woods, two behind Rock

Brilliant up and down from Woods, saving his par from 15 foot and the old clenched fist is back. Rock had a chance to edge further ahead but leaves it in the jaws. Both players walk off with a four but Woods will be the happier.

Woods goes way right with his approach into the 11th and it will be a tough chip from there. Meanwhile, in the group ahead, Mcllroy, Molinari and Lawrie two putt the par three 12th. And now Rock produces a gem of a shot into the 11th to ten feet or so. Could be a key moment.

Another shot slips away for Woods after visiting two bunkers down the tenth hole - firstly off the tee and then by the green. Gives away the shot he made on the previous hole and he is back to 11 under par and two behind Rock.

McDowell has given up the putter by the looks of things. Follows his ace on the 12th with a chip in on the 13th and the 2010 US Open Champion moves to nine under par.

Everything to play for here still in Abu Dhabi. Who is going to step up to the plate and perhaps put a run of birdis together to challenge for the championship? All ahead over the next couple of hours, exciting stuff.

Boisterous roar from the galleries as Woods gets back to within one shot of Rock's lead after holing his birdie putt as Rock can only par. It's all set up very nicely for the back nine.

Unbelievable. A third hole in one of the week at the 12th hole, this time by Northern Irishman Graeme McDowell. No prize for McDowell though, after Sergio Garcia took the incredible prize of a three-night stay at the Emirates Palace every year for life with the first of the three on Thursday. McDowell, however, just wins the honour. Nice all the same mind!

After good drives from Rock and Woods at the ninth, Woods' three wood running just into the semi rough, however this doesn't faze the 38-time European Tour winner who plays a terrific approach into the green,while Rock with nine iron narrowly avoids the right-greenside bunker to set up a birdie opportunity.

Woods makes his par after flying through the green on the eighth but Rock bogeys aftr a wayward tee shot when he was distracted by a photographer. Rock leads at 13 under, two ahead of Paul Lawrie and Woods.

McIlroy gets his par and reaches the turn in 35. Now time to turn up the heat as we reach the back nine on Sunday. Now the fun starts.

Woods led the Greens in Regulation for the first three days but misses another one with his pitch into the eighth and so far he has only hit one green in regulation, and that was on the first.

Rock seems to have stepped up a gear over the last year or so. Last year as his best season to date as he claimed his maiden title at the Itlian Open and four other top tens. And this is another big step for him.

That wind has come into play with Rory overshooting the green and fails to get up and down from the bunker so a costly drop shot to move McIlroy back to ten alongside Lawrie who pars.

Steady as she goes for McIlroy and Lawrie with pars at six while Molinari continues to go the wrong way with another bogey. Wind picking up, swirling on seventh tee.

McIlroy responding well to the Woods and Rock charges behind as he sinks a lovely birdie putt on the fifth to go eleven under and two off the lead as Lawrie negates his bogey back with his own birdie to jump back to ten under. Molinari bogeys though and he's back to nine.

Pars all round at the short fourth for the McIlroy group as crowds mass at the tee from the final pairing. Even Rory can't resist a sneaky glance back at the fourth green after he tees off on five.

Absolutely stunning day in Abu Dhabi, not a cloud in the sky and just enough wind to make the players think. Messy third hole for Lawrie sees him drop back to -9, as McIlroy and Molinari make solid pars.
