Well what a final day we have had here in Doha. In a week where the wind threatened to overshadow the golf, a steely Scotsman stole the show to conquer Qatar again. Congratulations Paul Lawrie, 2012 Commercialbank Qatar Masters Champion.

So it was a par to finish at 18, in a round that included five birdies and an eagle at the par five ninth hole. Such a fine performance, and he richly deserves all the praise he will rightly get following this win.

That’s it, he’s done it. Paul Lawrie wins the Commercialbank Qatar Masters presented by Dolphin Energy for the second time, and what style he has done it in, equalling the lowest round of the week, a seven under par 65. Wonderful performance from the Scotsman, and so very well deserved.

Hanson’s eagle putt a little outside the line but the Swede is safely in for birdie and a tie of second place with Jason Day at 11 under par. Great week for The Ryder Cup star.

Safely aboard, if a little short, for Lawrie and the Pearl Trophy that sits astride the 18th green awaits.

Lawrie lays up while playing partners Hanson and the somewhat-forgotten Colsaerts make the green in two. Hanson with an opportunity for eagle and second place on his own.

Just off the fairway for Lawrie down the 18th, as Hanson, who will be looking for a birdie to tie for (probably) second place with Jason Day, hits the middle.

Amazing. Simply amazing from Lawrie. His tee shot at 17 is a touch short and hits the thick stuff at the front of the green, but he doesn’t have the nickname “Chippy” for nothing and the Scotsman – with the flag out – chips in. Unstoppable. Lawrie is -15 and four ahead going down the last.

Jason Day’s eagle putt at the 18th is so, so close to dropping but pulls up just shy. However, it’s still a birdie for the Australian who finishes 11 under par and currently in sole possession of second place in his debut appearance at the Qatar Masters.

But Lawrie is game to match anything that is thrown at him right now, as after another superb chip to within a few feet of the pin, he duly dispatches the birdie putt to move to 14 under par and a lead of four now with two holes to play. Cool as a cucumber.

Incredible. Peter Hanson with an extraordinary eagle at the 16th. After driving into the rough on the right hand side of the green, the Swede plants a sumptuous second that runs straight into the cup and the big man is now ten under par and into a tie for second with Jason Day.

Par to finish for Daly and thus ends an excellent week for the American who, at the moment, is lying third at nine under par. Lawrie shows perhaps a hint of tension as he pulls his tee shot on 16 into the rough to the left of the green, a lot of the short stuff between him and the hole to work with, though.

After another good approach from Lawrie at the 15th, his smooth right to left birdie putt slips by to stick at 13 under par with three to play. Meanwhile, Sergio Garcia can only par the 18th and that is a 68 for the Spaniard and currently in a tie for fourth spot - his first top five in a European Tour event in the Desert in his European Tour career.

It’s been a fine week for John Daly and he has moved into third place after chipping in from greenside at the short 17th. Nice to see the American hit some form here in Doha.

Down the middle from Lawrie at the par four 15th, while one hole ahead Jason Day was short of the green and chipped on to give him another chance of moving to 11 under par. Getting exciting here in Doha.

Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful golf from Paul Lawrie. After another fine approach despite being from the long stuff, the Scotsman caresses the birdie putt into the centre of the cup to move to thirteen under par, a lead of three shots with four holes to play.

But the birdie putt fails to drop for Day as he leaves it short, how frustrating for the 24 year old, who could have got within one of Lawrie’s lead with three to play for the Australian.

Day looking the most likely challenger to Lawrie right now, plants a lovely approach into the 15th green for a very makeable birdie opp, while our Scottish leader finds the rough down the right hand side at the 14th hole.

So, Jose Maria Olazabal is 46 today and he has celebrated with another solid performance that should see him finish in the top 15 and his second top 15 finish this season. Happy birthday Ollie!

Paul Lawrie in missing birdie shocker! The putt stays out at 13 but it’s still a par for our leader and still a two shot lead.

Absolute corker of a tee shot from Paul Lawrie at the par three 13th, playing 211 yards today, and if you want omens/form how about this: Lawrie is currently seven under for the back nine so far this week, with only one bogey, at 13th on day one. Birdie chance there today, though!

The putt slips by and are Garcia’s chances of victory gone with it? Back to eight under par now, tied for third with four others and four off Lawrie’s solid lead.

No dice for Lawrie at the 12th, but safely in for par, while Garcia will do well to avoid dropping another at the 15th after missing the green left on the par four 15th, wonderful touch with the flop out, however, and he has a chance for par.

But he has lost a share of second place, as Australian Jason Day sinks yet another birdie at the short 13th hole – his fourth in a row for the second time this round to move to ten under par and within two of Lawrie, the latter who just planted an actual beauty from a fairway bunker on the 12th that tracked straight over the flag.

Quite a few of you noting that Garcia’s putting is a little off today, but the Spaniard is still within three shots and not too far away from Lawrie to still claw it back. Garcia pars the par four 14th hole.

Jason Day gets within two of leader Lawrie after finding back to back birdies at the tenth, 11th and 12th – his fifth, sixth and seventh of the day – to go to nine under par, while Lawrie, who found the right hand rough on the 11th with his tee shots plants a sublime approach to within six feet and a chance to extend his lead.

Costly three-putt at the short 13th hole sees Garcia drop back one shot and hands Lawrie a two shot cushion. That’s Garcia’s first bogey of an otherwise flawless Sunday for the Spaniard.

If some of you didn’t like the top ten fact on Lawrie, how about this one: Five of his six European Tour titles have come when leading or sharing the lead going into the final round. The 1999 Open Championship was the only event he made up a final round deficit, of ten shots, to equal the largest final round comeback in European Tour history.

A good day’s work for last year’s champion, Thomas Bjorn, who finishes with four under par after shooting 68 today. Great grinding from The Great Dane, but just left himself too much to do after a first-day seven over par 79.

John Daly slips back to six under par after bogey at eleven and he tied for seventh place now.
