We've seen a range of birdie celebrations this year on The European Tour but Andreas Hartø may have just trumped them all.
The Danish player, playing in his home event at the Made In Denmark, birdied the famous par three 16th hole and then, to the delight of everyone on Himmerland Hill, got down on one knee and proposed to his girlfriend Louise.
"Her favourite number is seven, and one plus six is seven." Hartø told us. "Last year we had some great memories on that hole. It was a great experience and she was here watching me more or less for the first time. The crowd was going crazy and we loved it – we had some great times here."
The three-time Challenge Tour winner started his day at two over par and knew during his round that he wasn't going to be around for the weekend. Rather than passing up the opportunity to make European Tour history, Hartø made the decision to propose on Himmerland Hill, the famous amphitheatre at Himmerland Golf Resort that surrounds the par three 16th.
Despite the pressure of playing the most famous hole in Denmark in front of 3,000 fans, and knowing his was going to propose, Hartø hit a wedge into five feet and made a birdie two. He then took off his cap, turned his girlfriend Louise in the crowd and invited her onto the green.
With the Himmerland Hill crowd cheering, the 27 year reached into his pocket, pulled out a ring and asked for his girlfriend's hand in marriage. Luckily for everyone in attendance, she said yes.
"I couldn’t say any words and I didn’t hear her say yes, so I had to ask her afterwards and luckily she did want to marry me so I’m a lucky man."
"I just had the ring out and I was crying and she was crying."
"It came into my mind that I could do it here, but it took some convincing myself and some courage. I was very nervous when it happened, but I couldn’t have written it any better. I don’t know how I hit that shot or made that putt. It was crazy and I was almost crying when I hit the putt because I knew what was about to happen."
We've seen many memorable moments at the 16th hole in the short history of the Made In Denmark but this one will be hard to beat.
