Dutchman Joost Luiten will be looking to continue his remarkably consistent start to the season when he tees it up at the Hero Indian Open this week.
Luiten’s impressive campaign to date sees him behind only Charl Schwartzel and Rory McIlroy in the European Tour stroke average category with 69.4, and the 30 year old has finished in the top 15 in every one of his six appearances so far.
You may not be surprised by the numbers Luiten has returned during the 2016 Race to Dubai, given the quality all-round game he possesses, but it is a fine bounce back from a disappointing 2015 campaign which yielded just two top 15s from 20 starts.
The four-time European Tour winner will have to draw on his consistent and solid ball-striking abilities in the Indian capital when he makes his debut in the Hero Indian Open, with Delhi Golf Club notorious for its narrow and challenging fairways – although it was the sponsor’s on-course motorbikes which captured his attention on Wedneday during the Pro-Am.
Joost is 12th in the Greens in Regulation category on the European Tour this season, averaging nearly 14 a round, and he is a cumulative 59 under par from those six events.
Luiten’s army of fans will have been delighted with the early season promise their man has shown, with only one round over 72 in 24 rounds,, but his skills have by no means been confined to the golf course, as this video of him and Chris Wood displaying their football skills shows:
