Stadler Leads the 100th Argentine Open

The second round of the Abierto Visa de la Republica presented by Bridgestone – the 100^th Argentine Open – saw Kevin Stadler of the USA card a four under par 66 to move to five under for the tournament and into a two stroke lead from an Argentinean quartet led by BMW Championship holder Angel Cabrera at the Jockey Club Buenos Aries. 

Stadler, the son of 1982 Masters Champion Craig, started his round on the tenth tee and got off to a perfect start with an eagle three at the par five 11^th, which he supplemented with a further three birdies and a single dropped shot to reach the turn in four under par 32.

The American then played the front nine in level par 34 to post a best of the 66 and take a two stroke lead from Cabrera, who saw his second round of level par 70 delayed by an hour after the players were called off of the course by the threat of lightning storms over the Jockey Club Buenos Aries.

Luciano Giometti (69), Hernan Rey (70) and Gustavo Rojas (67) share second place with Cabrera.

Denmark’s Kasper Jorgensen is flying the flag for the European Challenge Tour and is the leading European in the field following his second round 70, which gave him a two round aggregate of two under par 138.

Jorgensen shares sixth place with the Colombian Jesus Amaya, with Argentina’s Eduardo Romero just one shot behind the Dane alongside his countryman Roberto Coceres.

Stadler said: “I was perhaps more fortunate to play early today because towards the end of the round I could feel the wind picking up.”
