Five in Focus: MCB Tour Championship - Seychelles

Ahead of the final event of the 2018 Staysure Tour season, we take a look at five players aiming to finish their year on a high at Constance Lemuria…

Clark Dennis

Clark Dennis

After his incredible 23 under par display last week in Mauritius, Clark Dennis will go in search of a fifth Staysure Tour title after joining the European over-50s circuit less than two years ago.

The American, who earned his card at last year’s Qualifying School and then went on to win the John Jacobs Trophy for topping the Order of Merit, equaled the Tour’s low 54-hole score last week as he won by eight strokes at Constance Belle Mare Plage.

Perhaps even more impressively, Dennis didn’t record a single bogey on the Constance Belle Mare Plage layout fraught with hazards. With water coming into play on a number of holes at Constance Lemuria, accuracy will be at a premium for Dennis and his fellow competitors.

Roger Chapman

Roger Chapman

Roger Chapman recorded his best finish on the Staysure Tour since his double Senior Major Championship winning season in 2012 as he finished third at last week’s MCB Tour Championship – Mauritius.

The Englishman missed most of the early part of the 2018 season after undergoing shoulder surgery, but returned to form in September after recording a tied fourth result at the Willow Senior Golf Classic.

He finished in a share of tenth at the Costa Blanca Benidorm Senior Masters and had to finish inside the top three to guarantee his place in the 32-man field this week, which he did with rounds of 68-68-67.

Tom Lehman

Winner of the MCB Tour Championship – Mauritius in 2011, Lehman knows what it takes to win in the Indian Ocean.

The 2006 Ryder Cup Captain finished sixth last week at Constance Belle Mare Plage, and he’s finished inside the top 20 in each of his four appearances in Mauritius.

The American also recorded a tied sixth result at The Senior Open Presented by Rolex and won the Principal Charity Classic on the PGA Tour Champions circuit, his 11thvictory since turning 50.

Magnus P Atlevi

Atlevi secured his second Staysure Tour title earlier this season at the European Tour Properties Senior Classic in Bulgaria and has enjoyed a more profitable year than when he won the Rookie of the Year award in 2016.

Last week’s second place finish was his second runner-up result of the year, adding to his performance at the Staysure PGA Seniors Championship at London Golf Club.

Capable of scoring low, as last week’s second round of 65 showed, Atlevi will hope to go one better in the Seychelles.

Thaworn Wiratchant

With conditions this week expected to be warmer than in Mauritius, Thai Thaworn Wiratchant will be in his element at Constance Lemuria.

The most successful player ever on the Asian Tour, with 18 victories, won last year’s MCB Tour Championship with a record-setting 23 under par total.

Adept at playing in all conditions, Wiratchant followed his victory in the Middle East at the Sharjah Senior Golf Masters presented by Shurooq with a tied sixth finish on the links of the Old Course at The Senior Open Presented by Rolex in July.
