Past winners to return to The Sinclair Invitational

Peter Fowler, Barry Lane and Gary Marks, three men who have triumphed at Hanbury Manor Marriott Hotel and Country Club in the past, will all tee it up at The Sinclair Invitational from August 30-September 1.

The trio are former winners of the Willow Senior Golf Classic, as it was then known, and will tee it up at Hanbury Manor as past champions as the tournament begins a new chapter in 2019 as The Sinclair Invitational.

A British Masters and Scottish Open champion, Lane has 17 professional victories to his name, including five European Tour titles and seven Staysure Tour wins. He also represented Europe in The 1993 Ryder Cup at The Belfry.

The 58-year-old is already a winner this year, triumphing in a play-off against Marc Farry at the Senior Italian Open as he carded a birdie on the second extra hole at Villaverde Resort. The victory was Lane’s first since his triumph at Hanbury Manor in 2017.

Marks won the first staging of the event in 2016 when he secured a two-stroke triumph over Mike Harwood with his second round of 63 helping him towards his inaugural Staysure Tour title.

The Englishman carded a bogey-free nine under par round in between an opening five under par 67 and a closing level par 72 to claim victory. Playing in only his 17th event on the over-50s circuit, Marks dubbed the win the ‘greatest day of my golfing life’.

Australian Fowler will tee it up as defending champion having triumphed at the Hertfordshire venue in 2018.

The 59-year-old finished two shots clear of Clark Dennis and Gary Orr last year, courtesy of rounds of 66-69-69 and subsequently claimed his sixth Staysure Tour title and his first for three years.

Fowler won the John Jacobs Trophy in 2011 after two victories, three runner-up finishes and two third place finishes and stayed inside the top five on the Order of Merit in four of the following five seasons, securing his place among the most consistent players on the circuit.

The trio join 1999 Open Champion Paul Lawrie and five-time Staysure Tour winner Philip Golding in confirming their participation in The Sinclair Invitational.
