A combination of injury and his design commitments has severely limited his playing schedule over recent years but since turning 50 he has won two Senior Open Championship titles plus two events on the US Champions Tour. Has been designing courses for 16 years with more than 30 courses in Ireland and Europe bearing his signature. Won four times during a successful career on The European Tour but is best known for the magnificent two iron to the 18th green during his singles match against Fred Couples in The 1989 Ryder Cup at The De Vere Belfry. It was a shot that set up a one hole victory and helped Europe to halve the match at 14 points apiece. He is the nephew of his namesake, the great Christy O’Connor.
