Captured his maiden title in stunning style at the dual-ranking 2015 Madeira Islands Open – BPI – Portugal, which had been rescheduled for August after bad weather forced the cancellation of the original date. Weekend rounds of 64-63 propelled him to a three stroke victory, and he continued that fine form to take a share of fifth place in the D+D Real Czech Masters a fortnight later. Did not have full European Tour playing rights until the Madeira win, but the victory ensured exemption on the Race to Dubai for the rest of 2015 and all of 2016. Became the third amateur to win on the Challenge Tour when he captured the Finnish Open on his debut in 2004. Had to wait a long time before capturing his maiden title as a professional, however, winning the 2013 National Bank of Oman Classic, a win which went a long way in securing his path to the 2014 Race to Dubai as he finished eighth in the Challenge Tour Rankings. Gained his European Tour card for the first time at the 2010 Qualifying School despite a nervy ending, carding a final round 76 to make it through on the mark. Picked up a club when he was five years old after being introduced to the game by his father, who was a PE teacher. Also played ice hockey and football as a youngster but took up golf more seriously when he was 16. Enjoys playing ice hockey and has a house in Orlando where he follows the Tampa Bay Lightning NHL Team. Wife Minea plays on the Ladies PGA Tour and was on his bag at the Qualifying School. Is also a fan of crime novels and rock music. Became friends with American band Avenged Sevenfold when the group performed in Finland and plays golf with the lead singer M Shadows.
