Plagued by accident and injury. In 1994 car accident kept him out of golf for three months with back and rib injuries and required a medical extension to get back into Volvo Order of Merit at Number 51 the following year. An outstanding junior golfer, he also required a medical exemption in 1997 after destroying a tendon in his left thumb caused by excessive practice. Operation to remove tendon successful and returned after ten month absence in Dubai Desert Classic. Comeback was complete when tied second behind Lee Westwood in the English Open. Missed the first four months of the 1999 season due to a shoulder problem and only played intermittently in 2000 after receiving a medical exemption for three tournaments. Went back to Qualifying School and captured 22nd card to regain his playing rights. Finally enjoyed an injury free season in 2001.
