Dutchman Tim Sluiter produced one of the rounds of the day to put himself into pole position at the European Tour Qualifying School Second Stage, shooting a six under par 65 to lead at Las Colinas Golf & Country Club.

The Second Qualifying Stage is unfolding across four venues in Spain with at least 18 players from each expected to progress through to the Final Stage, to be held at PGA Catalunya Resort from November 24-29.

Sluiter, who narrowly lost out to Scot Chris Doak at the third extra hole of a play-off for the ALLIANZ Open de Lyon on the Challenge Tour a month ago, moved to 11 under par 202, two clear of compatriot Daan Huizig and Australian Luke Hickmott.

Four players still managed to go one better in the third round with American Daniel Im, Northern Ireland Chris Devlin and Germany’s Bernd Ritthammer, all in the top 15 heading into the final round, all shooting 64 as did Swede Klas Ericsson, who will need something similar or even better if he is to progress through to the Final Stage from his current position of 44th.

At El Valle Golf Resort, Englishman Thomas Haylock took over the front-running, a two under par 69 edging him one ahead of Italian Nicolo Ravano, Swede Ake Nilsson and England’s Sam Little.

Another Englishman was leading the way at Lumine Golf & Beach Resort, Martin Sell carding a third successive 67 to move to 12 under par 201 and one ahead of South Africa Dylan Frittellim, England’s Paul Maddy and Welshman Liam Bond.

Ireland’s Simon Thornton shot a six under par 66 at Campo de Golf El Saler to move into a share of the lead with England’s Jason Timmis, one ahead of Swede Pelle Edberg and Spain’s Adrian Otaegi.

One round remains of the Second Stage in the last push to progress through to the Final Qualifying Stage, where the ultimate six-round examination awaits.
