The Masters Tournament
A record 22 European Tour Members - plus Amateur champion Graeme Storm - have been invited to play in the 64th Masters Tournament at Augusta National Golf Club in Georgia this week.
Europeans Make Steady Start in Augusta
José Maria Olazábal made a sterling start to the defence of his US Masters title when he carded an opening par round of 72 on a difficult day of gusting, swirling winds.
While that put him four off the lead held by American Dennis Paulson it kept him very much in touch on a day when low-scoring was at a premium as Augusta's newly-introduced rough exacted a heavy toll.
ELS ONE OFF THE PACE AT HALFWAY STAGE
South Africa's Ernie Els swept to within one stroke of the lead in the 2000 Masters with a brilliant second round of 67 on a perfect spring day at Augusta National.
David Duval moved to the head of the pack when he shot a six-under-par 30 on the inward nine for a 65 and Els is one of three players hard on his heels. Fiji's Vijay Singh matched Els' 67 while left hander Phil Mickelson overcame a duffer's fluffed chip to put together a tidy 68.
Singh Takes Lead into final day
South Africa's Ernie Els is the PGA European Tour's main hope of further US Masters success. When darkness called a halt to Saturday's rain-interrupted play the Big Easy stood at three under par with three holes of his third round to be completed Sunday morning.
That was four behind Vijay Singh who was seven under for the tournament after 50 holes, three ahead of playing partner David Duval.
