LOUIS OOSTHUIZEN

• His second European Tour International Schedule victory in his 162nd  European Tour event

• Second win of the 2010 European Tour International Schedule, following the Open de Andalucia de Golf

• His first Major Championship victory in his ninth Major Championship appearance

• This victory beats his previous best Major Championship finish of 73rd in the 2008 US PGA Championship

• Victory comes in his fourth Open Championship appearance. Had missed the cut in his three previous appearances in 2004, 2006 and 2009

• Becomes the fourth South African to win The Open Championship, following Bobby Locke (1949, 1950, 1952 and 1957); Gary Player (1959, 1968 and 1974) and Ernie Els (2002)

• Joins Bobby Locke (1957) as the only other South African to win The Open Championship at St Andrews

• His opening round of 65 (-7) is the lowest opening round by a winner in the history of The Open Championship

• His seven shot winning margin is the largest in The Open Championship since Tiger Woods in 2000

• His seven shot winning margin is the largest of the 2010 season to date, beating the six of Charl Schwartzel at the Joburg Open

• His seven shot winning margin is the largest on The European Tour since Ross Fisher at The 2007 European Open

• Moves into the top 15 of the Official World Golf Ranking from 54th

• Becomes the sixth South African to win a Major Championship, following Ernie Els, Retief Goosen, Trevor Immelman, Bobby Locke and Gary Player

• The 39th  Major Championship victory by a European Tour Member since Seve Ballesteros won The Open Championship in 1979

•  The 18th  different European Tour Member to win a Major Championship since Seve Ballesteros in 1979

 

• Second successive European Tour Member to win a Major Championship, following Graeme McDowell at the US Open Championship. This represents the first time since Padraig Harrington (2008 US PGA Championship) and Angel Cabrera (2009 Masters Tournament) that consecutive Major Championships have been won by European Tour Members

• Fourth player to record multiple victories on the 2010 European Tour International Schedule, following Charl Schwartzel (Africa Open and Joburg Open), Graeme McDowell (The Celtic Manor Wales Open and US Open Championship) and Miguel Angel Jiménez (Omega Dubai Desert Classic and Alstom Open de France)

• Moves to €1,510,256 in The Race to Dubai. This represents the first time he has recorded more than €1 million in a single European Tour season

• Gains an exemption into The Open Championship until he is 60

• Gains a five year exemption into the Masters Tournament, US Open Championship and US PGA Championship

• Gains a place in the 2010 WGC – Bridgestone Invitational, WGC – HSBC Champions and PGA Grand Slam of Golf

• Extends his European Tour exemption until the end of 2017

• Gains his highest European Tour prize of €1,011,849

• Moves over €3 million in European Tour Career Earnings

• The 94th South African victory in European Tour history

• The fifth South African victory of the 2010 season. They are: Charl Schwartzel (Africa Open and Joburg Open), Ernie Els (WGC – CA Championship) and Louis Oosthuizen (Open de Andalucia de Golf and The Open Championship)

• His seventh win as a professional worldwide

• Played the European Challenge Tour in 2003. Is the first former Challenge Tour player to win The Open Championship and just the third to win a Major Championship, following Michael Campbell (2005 US Open Championship) and Trevor Immelman (2008 Masters Tournament)

• Also brings up the 250th European Tour victory by a former Challenge Tour player
