TRAVEL BY ROAD
It is anticipated that given the high number of spectators likely to attend The Irish Open, the road network in and around the town of Portrush will be busy. The European Tour is urging all motorists to use the designated traffic routes, all of which will be clearly signed by the AA.
ALL ROAD USERS ARE ASKED TO FOLLOW EVENT SIGNAGE WHICH WILL INDICATE PARK AND RIDE LOCATIONS. UNLESS YOU HAVE AN OFFICIAL CAR PARK LABEL YOU WILL NOT BE GIVEN ACCESS TO THE EVENT.
After successful experiences from other leading European Tour events and detailed discussions with the relevant authorities, a coach, rail and “Park & Ride” transport plan has been chosen as the best solution to minimise vehicle flows and reduce potential congestion in the local area.
PARK AND RIDE
The European Tour, in conjunction with Northern Ireland Tourist Board (NITB), the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI), Coleraine Borough Council, Translink and the Roads Service have studied these arrangements in detail and the overriding objectives are a safe event with minimum disruption to the local communities and ease of access and a warm welcome for all visitors.
It is intended that no golf traffic will be directed to park in Portrush itself and that only Park and Ride locations are used.
Designated routes will lead to Park and Ride facilities operating from all Public car parks. These facilities will reduce delays, allowing motorists to travel free to and from the course on the dedicated buses provided. Translink operators will be on hand to assist with these journeys.
The PSNI encourages spectators to use the Park and Ride facilities to minimise disruption to local traffic and ensure a swift transfer to The Irish Open.
There will be a daily charge of £5.00 per vehicle, payable on arrival only for access to the car parks but thereafter the shuttle service to the golf course will be free.
Please make a note of the location of your car when it is parked. There will be signage to help you do this.
Park and Ride operating times will be as follows:-
Wednesday 08:00hrs - 18:00hrs
Thursday 06:00hrs - 22:00hrs
Friday 06:00hrs - 22:00hrs
Saturday 07:00hrs - 24:00hrs *
Sunday 07:00hrs - 22:00hrs
Whilst all times and distances are given for normal traffic conditions, due to traffic flow conditions during the event, journey times may increase and different routes may be taken. It is hoped that the average transfer time from the Park and Ride to the course will be 15 – 20 minutes.
The shuttle times will run to 22:00hrs most nights of the Championship should spectators wish to eat or spend time in the town of Portrush after the golf has finished before returning home.
*The service will run later on Saturday evening to accommodate those spectators who wish to stay in Portrush town to see the evening fireworks display.
Daily coach parking and pick up point for all private hire buses will be at the existing coach park on Sandhill Drive.
Taxi set down and pick up can be facilitated at the Dunluce Centre, which will be managed by Coleraine Council staff. This will be communicated to the Taxi Associations.
