Scotland's Scott Jamieson stepped up his bid for a Durban double with a sparkling start to his second round at the Volvo Golf Champions.

Jamieson, who five weeks ago captured the Nelson Mandela Championship presented by ISPS Handa at Royal Durban, birdied four of the first six holes at Durban Country Club to join Thailand's Thongchai Jaidee on seven under.

It followed a two-hour delay following heavy overnight rain, but perhaps the 29 year old Glaswegian saw that as a good omen - last month's event had to be cut to 36 holes because of bad weather in the city.

With leaders out last in the 33-strong winners-only field, Jaidee resumed with three pars in a row and also had playing partner Louis Oosthuizen to worry about. South Africa's 2010 Open Champion birdied the third and fourth to be only one back.

Current Open Champion Ernie Els picked up a shot as well on the 511 yard third, but then bogeyed the short next and at four under was in a tie for fourth with 1999 Open winner Paul Lawrie, Dane Thomas Björn and England's Danny Willett - until, that is, Willett double-bogeyed the 459 yard fifth.

For the second round only the players had an amateur partner in each group - they were finalists in the Volvo World Challenge - and the professionals in the winning team each receive a car for their efforts.

Darren Clarke won one at the inaugural event in Bahrain two years ago and the 2011 Open Champion had the chance of another when he had a hat-trick of birdies from the 12th after setting off again on the back nine.

Clarke had started with a three over 75, but in the team event he and everyone else was starting from scratch.
