Australian Andrew Dodt and Prom Meesawat of Thailand shared the lead early in the first round of the Hong Kong Open, where China's teenage sensation Guan Tianlang endured a mixed opening day.

Dodt and Meeswat both shot four under par 66 to lead by one from Jbe Kruger and Stuart Manley, while 15 year old Guan, who holds the record as the youngest player to make the cut at a Major Championship, set at this year's Masters Tournament, finished with a one over par 71 despite at one stage being five under.

The firm conditions of the course caught out a number of players, but Dodt and Meesawat remained steady for a promising start.

Dodt, who finished with four birdies in the last five holes, said: "I've always liked coming here. I'm sure a lot of guys do, but I like courses where you have to think about it and plot your way around and hole some putts along the way."

Meesawat added: "I'm very happy to start with a 66 here, it's a tough course. I played very well today from tee to green. Especially on this course, you must hit the fairways."
