True Corporation PCL has announced it will be the title sponsor of the 2015 True Thailand Classic presented by Black Mountain, a tournament co-sanctioned by The European and Asian Tours.

PTT Group has also committed its support for this much-anticipated event as The European Tour returns to Thailand after eight years, to mark the start of a new era for Thai golf fans. The tournament will be held from February 12-15 at the award-winning Black Mountain Golf Club, and will feature an international field that will battle for the US$2 million prize fund.

Thailand becomes one of 26 countries to host a European Tour tournament in a 2015 schedule which culminates in the crowning of Europe’s top golfer at the finale of The Race to Dubai, the DP World Tour Championship, Dubai.

Kachorn Chiaravanont, Group Executive Director, Corporate Affairs of True Corporation PCL, said: “True Corporation PCL is honored to be a part of this historic event. We are proud that we can broadcast this great golf tournament to more than 600 million households worldwide.

“True Visions has become one of the key players with its full international coverage through its 14 HD channels and 30 sports channels.

“This tournament will be a great opportunity to promote Thailand in terms of the kingdom’s potential in trade, economics, investment and tourism. With the True Thailand Classic being broadcast worldwide for the four tournament days, it will mark a proud and significant moment for golf in Thailand.”

The PTT Group is also heavily involved in supporting the True Thailand Classic. Sakaret Thaipichit, Vice President, Government & Industrial Marketing of the PTT Group, said: “It is a great honor for the PTT Group to play a significant role in the Thailand Classic.

“We fully support this tournament, which will help golf in Thailand maintain its international standards. We are proud to be a host of this event co-sanctioned by the Asian Tour and The European Tour.”

The True Thailand Classic has also received great support from the Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT), Thai Airways, Chang and Sappe.

A wealth of golfing talent will be on display at the tournament. Among the latest entrants are the in-form Scot Marc Warren, Sweden’s Johan Edfors – who knows the Black Mountain course very well, having won the Black Mountain Masters in 2009 – and two-time Ryder Cup player David Howell. Another Englishman who is a familiar face in Asia is six-time European Tour winner Simon Dyson.

Another big attraction will be Nicolas Colsaerts, The 2012 Ryder Cup star. Also likely to attract a large gallery are the popular Spanish star Miguel Angel Jiménez and the experienced Dane, Thomas Bjørn. Another popular player in Asia is big-hitting Australian Scott Hend, winner of the 2014 Hong Kong Open.

Other Asian players in the field include India’s Jeev Milka Singh, rising star Anirban Lahiri, Asian Tour Order of Merit champion David Lipsky and the talented Japanese star Koumei Oda.

Leading the local challenge will be tournament ambassador Thongchai Jaidee, winner of six European Tour events. Other Thai players looking for a home victory include Thaworn Wiratchant, who has a record 18 Asian Tour titles, Prayad Marksaeng, Kiradech Aphibarnrat, Prom Meesawat and Chapchai Nirat. Top players from the Thailand Professional Golf Association (TPGA) will also be in action.

Boonperm Intanapasat, CEO of Muse Group Bangkok, who are promoting the tournament, said: “The return of a prestigious European Tour event in Thailand has had a great response from famous professionals from both Europe and Asia. They all want to be part of this event, which will create golfing history in Thailand.”
