Albatros course at Le Golf National ()
Albatros course at Le Golf National ()

Le Golf National opened in 1990 is a stadium course with lots of elevated viewings positions for the fans. Water is a prominent feature especially over the closing holes with water coming into play on 13, 15, 16 and 18 as well as the two opening holes. The course has undergone major renovations wuth new drainage irrigation, lake edging and bunkering as well landscaping, hospitality platforms and road construction in preparation for the 2018 Ryder Cup. The green and surround on the 1st hole has been redesigned to create more pin positions. The 4th and 5th holes have been remodeled to accept larger crowds ready for the Ryder Cup with new fairway bunkering. The 7th hole will be played from a new slightly shorted and elevated tee. The 11th hole has been completely remodeled with new bunkering and a new lake and back tee option.  The 12th hole has new fairway bunkering. The 14th hole has a new forward tee option.  The 16th green has been remodeled to provide new pin positions. The course is mostly exposed so the wind could get up during the course of the week.

The tees are made up of a mix of meadow, fescue and rye grass, this week they have been cut to 7mm.

The fairways are relatively average width but there is a lot of movement in the drive zone which means that they play narrower. They are made up of a mix of bent, rye and fescue grass.

The rough has three grades this week it is made up of a mix of fecue and rye grass. The semi rough is 2.5 metres wide and is cut at 30mm. The intermediate is maintained at a lengthy 69mm, while the thickets rough is completely maintained. The rough will be quite penal this week after a very wet six weeks leading up to the tournament, the players will be particularly keen to keep on the short grass this week.

The greens at the course in Paris are made up of a mix of meadow and bent grass, they are cut to 2.8mm and will be running at 12 on the stimpmeter.

The last six weeks have seen the most rain for this in the last 150 years with close to 400mm falling. Looking ahead to the the tournament the weather looks to be mild with moderate wind and some rain showers forecast.
