Joburg Open: Day two digest

Brandon Thompson Robinson goes low on a busy Friday, Casey Jarvis is feeling chipper and the weather causes problems again.

Everything you need to know from the second day of action at Houghton Golf Course.

Robinson Thompson gets his eye in on gruelling day

Brandon Robinson Thompson had to play 23 holes on Friday after his first round was hindered due to a weather delay. The Englishman made the most of the situation though, finishing his final five holes in three under before equalling Houghton Golf Club's course record of 62 for his second round. He carded an eagle, seven birdies and a bogey to surge into a three-shot lead at 12 under. Robinson Thompson said: "It was a lot of fun, actually. I've been up since 3.45 this morning. I was holing everything until you guys showed up! I've been putting really nicely. My speed control on the greens has been really, really good for the last couple of days. I even made three birdies this morning coming back to finish my first round so I've kind of had my eye in, I guess you would say, on the greens a little bit, but also just being able to shape shots both ways against the strong wind today, off the tee and into the green, really sort of made a difference, I think."

Casey Jarvis chips in for birdie

Casey Jarvis, who is aiming to become only the third player after Sir Nick Faldo and the late, great Seve Ballesteros to win three consecutive DP World Tour events, is right in the mix as he sits six shots behind leader Robinson Thompson at six under. The South African's lovely chip-in at the sixth was one of five birdies in his second-round 67 in Johannesburg.

Robinson Thompson celebrates hole-out eagle

It is fair to say that Robinson Thompson enjoyed his eagle at the par-four 13th. The Englishman recorded his first hole-out on the DP World Tour and it helped him carve open a three-shot lead at the the top of the leaderboard. He said: "First one on Tour, so get in! It was about a 100-yard shot for me and the pin was set up perfectly. Just a sort of draw spin, past the hole, spin back. I hadn't holed out on Tour yet, until today, so it felt really cool. A very cool feeling holing out."

Justin Rose recalls happy memories in Johannesburg

Team Europe Ryder Cup star Justin Rose tuned in to what the second day in Johannesburg had to offer as he recalled happy memories of the venue where he secured his first of 11 DP World Tour titles at the dunhill championship in January 2002.

Weather causes chaos once again

Friday's forecast looked more bleak than day one, which was delayed by an hour and 45 minutes due to thunder and lightning, but it looked as though Johannesburg had escaped the bad weather until play was suspended once again at 3.34pm local time. Play was eventually abandoned at 4.59pm, with players returning to the course at 7am on Saturday morning to complete their second rounds.
