Find out more about Diamond Country Club, part of European Tour Destinations
Diamond Country Club is located 35km from Vienna in the beautiful Austrian countryside, was designed by Englishman Jeremy Pern and first opened in 2002.
The venue’s centrepiece is undoubtedly the testing 18 hole Diamond Course, with 9 holes featuring water hazards that threaten both tee and approach shots.
European Tour veteran and fan favourite Miguel Ángel Jiménez has since remodelled some of the holes, including a complete redesign of the signature par four eighth hole.
Water is a notable feature on the course, with a lake hugging the right side of the scenic par three 18th, making for a memorable finish.
Also on offer are two further courses – 12-holes and 9-holes, the Diamond Golf Academy offering superb practice facilities, an elegant clubhouse offering fine Lower Austrian cuisine, a modern and spacious aparthotel (opened in 2015), club suites and a Boat House restaurant overlooking the lake at the ninth hole.
Host of the Austrian Golf Open
Since 2010, Diamond Country Club has been a regular venue on the European Tour, and boasts an impressive list of champions that includes the likes of Joost Luiten and home favourite Bernd Wiesberger.
It was also the site of Dylan Frittelli's maiden win over Mikko Korhonen in 2017, before Korhonen went one better when Diamond Country Club hosted the first ever event to have a shot clock on every single hole for the inaugural Shot Clock Masters in 2018.
Following a break in 2019, the Austrian Open made its return to the schedule in 2020, and it was Scotsman Marc Warren who ended a six year victory drought with his fourth win on the European Tour - which he did without a caddie.
“2014 was the last time I’ve won,” said Warren, who regained his Tour card with his win. “What’s happened on the golf course in the years since then, I’ve played very poorly. The break has been unfortunate for everyone but it came at a good time for me, spending some time at home and trying to get my game ready to play golf.
“Carrying my bag this week probably helped tone it down a little, just going out and playing and seeing what happens. The result couldn’t have been any better."
