acciona Open de España presented by Madrid - Day two digest

Everything you need to know from day two at Club de Campo Villa de Madrid.

Jon Rahm

Paul Waring climbed to the top of the leaderboard and was joined by Stephen Gallacher.

Another Scot also made a move, two of the overnight leaders hung around and Jon Rahm played his way to within touching distance despite a slow start.

Here is everything you need to know from day two at Club de Campo Villa de Madrid.

Up-and-down day for Rahm

It was a rollercoaster of a round for Rahm, looking to win his home Open for a third time and match the great Seve Ballesteros. This shot, from an unlucky lie at 13, was one of the highlights of his 68 that got him to within a couple of shots of the lead.

...and this one wasn't too bad either.

Van Tonder's ace finish

Daniel van Tonder's post-round meal will have tasted all the sweeter after this stunning hole-in-one at the ninth put the lid on his Friday. Starting at the tenth, he managed a second straight 68, which also included an eagle at the fourth. Van Tonder's beauty was the second there this week after Daniel Gavins holed his tee shot in round one.

Wu's fast start, slow finish

Friday afternoon saw joint overnight leader Wu Ashun carry on where he finished off on Thursday. Wu had birdied the last three holes of his opening round and after a par to start round two, a hat-trick of birdies followed, with this 26-footer at the second getting him going. He was within a shot when he stood on the 12th but a double-bogey, after going right off the tee and way left with his second, was followed by another two dropped shots at the next hole, this time after a wild tee shot to the left landed him in trouble. An unthinkable third double-bogey six arrived at the 16th but a couple of birdies on the back nine means he's within five. So, still in the mix.

But then this happened...

It's not just Jon...

Rahm was attracting all the attention as he worked his way up the leaderboard but three of his countrymen are just a couple of shots back from his mark - and four off the lead. Alfredo Garcia-Heredia posted seven birdies and a bogey in his 65, Sebastian Garcia Rodriguez managed five birdies and an eagle in his spotless 64 while 19-year-old Luis Masaveu shot a 68.
