Ace caps Stenson's wonderful week

Henrik Stenson may not have secured the home win he craved at the Scandinavian Invitation but he had a memorable week in front of hordes of adoring fans at Hills Golf & Sports Club.

The Swede secured the biggest cheer of the week with a one bounce ace at the sixth on Sunday that briefly moved him into a share of the lead as he looked for a first European Tour win on home soil.

He could not keep pace with Erik van Rooyen after that, finishing five shots behind the South African but it was a week the 2016 Open Champion will never forget on the outskirts of his home town.

After two early bogeys on day one he brought the crowds to life with four birdies in a row in a 69.

He had the fans in raptures when he made six in a row on Friday en rouute to a 62 and he bounced back from an opening double bogey on the first on Saturday to stay in contention.

A monster putt on the third in round three had brought the loudest cheer of the week but that was nothing compared to his hole-in-one.

"I had a couple of good holes, one in particular, but all in all I didn't have my sharpest game," he said.

"Unfortunately we couldn't see the bottom of the pin. I hit a very nicely struck seven iron and it was flying straight at it so I had my hopes. It was kind of sitting down in a bowl and going straight at it.

"I don't think all of the crowd could see it either, some seemed more excited than others.

"It wasn't until we reached the front of the green that I realised it was in."
