The two‑time champion admits 2025 has not been his most rewarding year, but he is hopeful that the start of the Opening Swing in Australia will provide an opportunity to reset.

Making his first appearance since retaining his DP World Tour card at the Genesis Championship in October with a tied 30th finish, Scott said he is hopeful that he can use these next two weeks to build confidence into 2026.

“Even though it’s late in the year, some good results can really carry some momentum into next year and that’s what I really haven’t had this year,” he said.

“So big weeks for me. Obviously I want to play well in front of a home crowd but also carry a little momentum and confidence into next season and make the most of it.

“The last time I was playing was about a month ago and I felt quite good with my game.

“It was really solid. I just didn’t quite get the results but that’s kind of the story of the year for me. Everything feels OK, just got to do a little better.”

Scott's year has been undoubtedly mixed.

Despite just three missed cuts from 22 events worldwide proving there was plenty of consistency to celebrate, a tied 11th at the Japan Open Golf Championship last month marked the closest he has been all year to recording a top ten on any tour.

Much of that, Scott admitted, has stemmed from frustrations on the greens.

“My putting was really ordinary this year after putting great for three or four years,” he said.

“I didn’t play that poorly but when you’re playing against the best players in the world all the time, you need to be pretty sharp. It was frustration — the ball rolling past the hole was kind of how this year felt. My last outings were a little better, saw a few more go in, so I’ll be looking for that this couple of weeks.”

Even so, the 45‑year‑old remains convinced he can still compete at the highest level.

“I’m starting to turn into that kind of old golf pro who’s out there,” he joked.

“But personally, I feel physically and mentally able to do it still. Fortunately I’m not in aches‑and‑pains phases yet and I’m really motivated. I really think I just need to sharpen up my focus a little bit and get back in that winning circle.”

Returning to Royal Queensland, where he grew up playing junior Pennant golf, adds an extra layer of motivation.

“I really feel like I haven’t spent a lot of time in Australia the last five years or so, so I was excited coming back.

“Great to touch down a couple of days ago, have a few nice coffees and catch up with some friends and family. Always fun to come back to Royal Queensland and relive junior Pennant days and memories like that — hopefully there’s a little magic out on the course for me this week.”

Scott already has two BMW Australian PGA Championship titles to his name, having won in 2013 for the first time and again in 2019, by then co-sanctioned with the DP World Tour, but a third would be particularly significant.

Having missed last year’s tournament, this return feels even more meaningful as he looks to reconnect with home crowds and add another chapter to his domestic record.

“It’d be really special, certainly at this point in my career,” he reflected.

“It’d be like a full circle moment from being a junior champion here to being a PGA champion here, and put myself in some really great company being a three‑time winner.”

Next week he will turn his attention to the Crown Australian Open, a title he claimed in 2009, with the chance to join a select group of multiple winners there too.

Scott knows opportunities on home soil are precious, and he is eager to make the most of the next two weeks.

"To win multiple Aussie Opens would be a nice thing and I know it’s only getting probably tougher for me from this point," he said.

"So while I’m healthy and feeling good, I want to make the most of it. We’re here to focus on the PGA this week, but again, to join a great list of guys winning three PGAs will be pretty special as well.”

“Hopefully that’s the next couple of weeks and I can kick on, still have some good golf ahead of me."
