Adam Scott, currently seventh on the Official World Golf Ranking, and fellow Australian, Mark Hensby, have confirmed that they will play in the Scandinavian Masters by Carlsberg at Kungsängen Golf Club, Stockholm.
Scott, who won the title in 2003, becomes the highest ranked player to play the event in the past ten years. “Adam Scott is one of the young, promising players that we have focused on for a few years. To have him returning as a world class player is a sign of strength for the event”, said the event’’s Managing Director, Staffan Östlund.
The Scandinavian Masters by Carlsberg is to be played at the delightful Swedish venue from July 28-31 and the visit to Scandinavia will be a special homecoming for Scott’’s Swedish girlfriend, Marie.
This year, Scott has won on both The European Tour and the US PGA Tour, capturing the Johnnie Walker Classic in China and the Nissan Open in Los Angeles. He has a special relationship with the Scandinavian Masters by Carlsberg, having won at Barsebäck near Malmo in 2003 and has finished in the top ten in all of his four starts in the event.
“I like Sweden and Scandinavian Masters by Carlsberg. The Swedish galleries are fantastic and I love the Swedish summer. I have been there in the winter too, but that was not as enjoyable!” said Scott, who lives in Switzerland and spends his time playing golf tournaments all over the world.
Hensby, who plays predominantly on the US PGA Tour, was in the spotlight in last week’’s US Open Championship at Pinehurst, where he finished in a tie for third place alongside Spain’’s Sergio Garcia.
Ryder Cup player, Jesper Parnevik, and the rest of the Swedish contingent will have a tough task ahead when the Scandinavian Masters by Carlsberg is decided for the 15th time. Former winners of the event include Nick Faldo, Vijay Singh, Colin Montgomerie, Lee Westwood, Parnevik, Joakim Haeggman and last year’’s winner Luke Donald.
