Alfred Dunhill Championship - Day two digest

Everything you need to know from Friday's play at Royal Johannesburg Club.

Eugenio Chacarra hit the front on his own while South African stars wowed their home crowds on day two of the 2026 Alfred Dunhill Championship.

Here is everything you need to know from Friday's play at Royal Johannesburg Club.

Chacarra the man to catch

Chacarra took a two-shot lead into the weekend after following up Thursday's opening 63 with a stunning 66 that featured some shot-of-the-week contenders. The Spaniard began the day in a tie for the lead on nine under par but found himself well behind home favourite Jayden Schaper by the time he teed off at 11.30. A lightning-fast start saw him close the gap, though, as he went agonisingly close to opening his second round with an albatross. He led by one shot at the turn after adding three front-nine birdies but back-to-back bogeys on the ninth and tenth saw him slip from the summit. However, Chacarra responded by making three more birdies on the way in to reach 15 under par and lead by two at the halfway stage.

Bunker brilliance from Hollick

Michael Hollick shot the lowest round of the day on Friday and put on a show as he signed for his bogey-free 63 - the joint-lowest round ever carded at Royal Johannesburg Club. One of the highlights of the home favourite's round came at the 12th, where he holed out from the greenside bunker for a birdie.

Chacarra almost lands albatross

After Chacarra's opening tee-shot landed among the trees, it had looked like he would not be able to go for the green in two. But he proved the doubters wrong by going straight at the flag and hitting the hole with his second shot, missing out on an albatross by the smallest of margins before holing the return putt for an eagle.

...and so does Olesen

Jacob Skov Olesen took dead aim at the sixth and was around a foot away from finding the cup for an albatross. He instead settled for his second eagle of the day, having also made one on the first.

Bezuidenhout's tasty chips

Christiaan Bezuidenhout chipped in for a brilliant birdie at the second and then went and repeated the trick at the 14th.
