Andalucía Challenge de Cádiz: Tournament Guide

The Andalucía Challenge de Cádiz takes place at Iberostar Real Club de Golf Novo Sancti Petri in Cádiz, Spain, from June 8 – 11 and here is what you need to know before play begins on Thursday…

Seve’s masterpiece

Iberostar Novo Sancti Petri

Iberostar Real Club de Golf Novo Sancti Petri was the first course in Spain to be designed by the great Severiano Ballesteros. The picturesque course is located on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean, on the beautiful beach of La Barrosa in Cadiz and has become one of the best-known golf resorts in Spain.

The golfer’s paradise boasts some of the best practice facilities in the south of Spain and provides players with everything they need to develop all aspects of their game. It includes a grass driving range, three practice holes, a short game practice area, four practice greens and a par three course.

Signature holes

The front nine of Iberostar Real Club de Golf Novo Sancti Petri’s “A” course is designed on open, exposed land along the Mediterranean coastline and the picturesque par four sixth hole requires players to hit into a raised green overlooking the beach. The back nine is played inland and provides a greater challenge as players must navigate their way through tight avenues of pine trees. The 17th hole, at 463 yards, is the longest and toughest par four on the scorecard and players must think strategically off the tee due to a giant tree positioned in the centre of the fairway.

Spanish Armada

Spain Pro Team

Since 2010, the Royal Spanish Federation have selected Spanish players with huge potential to be part of the ProSpain team. These players are supported financially and coached at the High Performance Centre in the Centro Nacional de Golf.

In 2014 the ProSpain team secured a spectacular victory at the European Absolute Championship, which was held at the Linna Golf Club course in Finland. The 2014 winning team included two-time Major champion Jon Rahm and Challenge Tour members Scott Fernández, Daniel Berná, Emilio Cuartero Blanco and Pep Anglés, who all tee it up this week in Cádiz.
